FreeNAS is a free application which offers a NAS (Network-Attached Storage) server. FreeNAS supports CIFS (samba), FTP, NFS, AFP, RSYNC, iSCSI protocols, S.M.A.R.T., local user authentication, Software RAID (0,1,5). It comes with a web interface for configuration matters. Once you have installed FreeNAS it does only need 32MB memory on your hard disk or USB flash drive. The IMG image file to this tool can be burned to disk with Nero or ImgBurn (developer´s website).
